30 To Life
Written By: C. N. Young
I thought I had to be what
They wanted me to be.
Instead of being all I can be.
But I ignored my heart
And went with my
Mind.
Looking for an answer I knew
Id never find.
I wanted to belong. I wanted
To feel like something.
My heart spoke to
Me telling me
To be
Who
I
Am.
But all my friends wanted
Me to do all the things
I knew was wrong.
They persuaded me to cut class.
To not do my homework.
To not go to school.
To disrupt class.
To smoke and do drugs.
To live like a delinquent.
I wanted to say no but they
Kept pressuring me to
Be like them.
They said if I wasnt like them
Then I didnt deserve to be
Their friend.
I wanted to belong, but I was
Trying to prolong.
I did all the things they wanted
Me to do and threw away
My scholarship.
I threw away my life to only
End up behind bars.
And charges piled up like
Cards.
I had ended up down a long
Dark tunnel and where
Were the people I called friends?
Nowhere around.
I learned a lesson that many
Learn the hard way.
I learned my lesson too late.
I now serve a sentence
30 to life.
My message here to you
Is to always say no and mean
It. Back way from those
Who are negative.
Always strive for perfection.
Go to school and make something of
Yourself.
Let no one tear you down.
Let no one poison your mind and soul.
Believe in the power of ones self
And youll see a future as
Bright as gold.
For the parents, talk, communicate
With your children for they
Are fragile souls.
They need guidance and support.
Love and comfort.
If you lose your children you may
Lose them forever.
The time is now to bond and
Never let it break.
