We live in a society where quantity is valued over quality. Marketability is valued over artistic integrity. Creativity and originality are too different for those used to the regular routine. It is a darn shame, too. It is almost as if we have settled into such a thing that we call normal we cannot stand any sort of change.
Imagination is not limited only to seeing pictures in the mind. It includes all the five senses and the feelings. One can imagine a sound, taste, smell, a physical sensation or a feeling or emotion. For some people it is easier to see mental pictures, others find it easier to imagine a feeling, and some are more comfortable imagining the sensation of one of the five senses.

You see, our mind has this amazing thing we call imagination. It has the ability to take something that we experience in real life and put a new spin on it, so to speak. It can even create a new experience on its own, completely detached from reality. That is where the truth of the matter lies: away from reality. It is in the virtual reality we call our mind that holds the answer. Our imagination is the key to creativity, originality, and variety in todays society. This is why people like me, the author of this little essay, exist. We are here to provide that variety. We are here to look at society and say, Heres something to spice it up! And what better way to mix things up by getting people to think differently? Almost all my stories now have something to do with the imagination because it is there that we think differently. You may shop at Wal-Mart, eat lunch at McDonalds, and read the National Enquirer every day, but deep down, you wish for something different all the time.
What I want you to do, after reading this, is to take a look in the mirror and think, How can I be different? How can I stand out? If you are a guy, dont say, Ill wear my pants below my rear, wear my hat backwards, and act like a rapper! Sorry, everybody I know is already like that. No, the way to be different is through some form of art. Everyone thinks art is just drawing, but they are wrong.
Art is a (product of) human activity, made with the intention of stimulating the human senses as well as the human mind and/or spirit; thus art is an action, an object, or a collection of actions and objects created with the intention of transmitting emotions and/or ideas. Beyond this description, there is no general agreed-upon definition of art, since defining the boundaries of "art" is subjective, but the impetus for art is often called human creativity.

That just about says it, doesnt it? There is no boundary of art that this article supposedly describes. It can be anything: literary, culinary, performance, photographical, and sculptural. Thats right, just taking pictures is art, as long as it stimulates an emotion in the viewer. If you have a picture of a pristine lake, it will create a sense of relaxation. If you have a picture of a Porsche, you might get a sense of amazement or wonder. Look in the mirror and tell yourself to be more artistic. Most of all be original!
The term "originality" is often applied as a compliment to the creativity of artists, writers, and thinkers.

Theres something for you: A new type of praise. As an artistic person, you could be getting praise for not just stimulating the emotions, but doing so in a way that people have never seen before! That is how you mix things up in society!

You see, what Im trying to tell you here is that the imagination is there to aid you in expressing creativity and originality. We have been giving this astounding gift that can take the experiences we have in everyday life and make them into our own original visions. That is what people really want deep down beneath the Wal-Mart and McDonalds way of life. So go out there and make something new using that wonderful thing you have up there. More people are famous for being original thats doing things everybodys already seen. Todays society lacks art, so spice it up with some of your own!
